Apple Macbook Air question by Diya: Macbook Air boots up to blue screen?
my macbook air was working perfectly fine last night, I shut it down and put it on my desk and this morning when I pressed the power key it shows me the gray apple screen which takes forever to load, then a blue screen appears (light mac blue) and is stuck there…..

I dont know anything about computers so any help will be appreciated…

I keep pressing the power button to shut it off and turn it back on several times and i get the same result…

what to do? whats the problem?

Try rebooting then hold down the Shift key until you get to the login page, login to your account but press the Shift key again before pressing the login button.
Google search mac blue screen startup if the safe boot doesn’t work for you.

The New Macbook Air – What are the reasons to get one?

Hello, Im gonna be in high school next year, and my parents want me to pick out a laptop. I will also use the laptop for surfing the web, music mixing, and stuff like that. I like the MacBook AIR, but it only has 1 usb, and a low graphics card (and i play mmorpg video games, like RuneScape, and FlashGames) i like the idea that the macbook, and AIR are pretty thin, but which one would better suit me. how heavy, and thick/thin is the MacBook. and is the air even worth it, since i wont be traveling alot, only for music gigs. which one in your opinon should i get?

Apple Macbook Air question by Jacob: Which should I get? A Macbook Pro or Macbook Air?
With the new pricing of Apple’s Macbook’s, I do not know which laptop I should get. If I got a Macbook Pro, I would get the higher end 13 inch, and if I got the Macbook Air, I would get the higher end model. I want a powerful computer, that is light and portable. I have tested out both and love them both.

NVidia CEO Jen-Hsun Huang has said that in a few years from now almost any notebook shall resemble the present MacBook Air. The latest MacBook Air seems to have become a template for other companies launching their future improved versions of notebooks. Most users of the Air had the same complain that Apple products have a very poor battery life as compared to its competing counterparts and now that has been corrected. Additionally, features like the thinner and lighter model with SSD would be a common feature in all future notebooks.

“You’ll have trouble finding one that doesn’t look like the MacBook Air,” said Huang. “I think the MacBook Air is a good mental image of what a clamshell laptop will look like”. “They’ll be thin because you won’t need any heat pipes, the fan, and extra batteries to lug around,” according to Huang. NVidia graphics chips have been used in the MacBook Air and are an integral part of it. NVidia’s GeForce 320M graphics processor is the only major logic chip to see a significant upgrade in the Air (Intel’s silicon changed very little from second to third-generation).

Huang’s “vision” has been based on ARM chips, which NVidia uses within it’s Tegra SoC, and believes that customers will “see” Windows running on ARM in 2014. However, even that misses the point. After the announcement that Apple had been developing Mac OS X for Intel processors for years before the public switched to Intel, who would be surprised to learn in 2014 that Apple had also been developing Mac OS X for ARM much before the public switch?

Speculation about what might happen in future is common and interests everyone. Even if one is wrong, it is at least fun to think about. Predicting something like the fact that laptops will get thinner and better in future is something extremely obvious. It is like stating something that people have known over the years and already know that this would happen.

Several rumours are in the air about the latest MacBook Pro, which supposedly shall resemble the MacBook Air. There are questions in the details, of course, such as “Will there still be a SuperDrive or will the Pro line come with a standard hard drive plus a solid-state drive?” But unlike Windows on ARM, you can expect to see the future from Apple in a month or less. Apple website already states “The next generation of MacBooks” implying that the future notebooks might indeed resemble the MacBook Air. Peter Cohen states “other MacBooks seem almost SteamPunk-ish retro with their quaint hard drives” after having used the latest MacBook Air.

It is also being expected that Apple will soon announce that the SuperDrive, which has previously been limited to the Mac mini and the Air (a restriction which has always seemed arbitrary and pointless) is now available for any new Mac, but the MacBook Pros will no longer ship with an optical drive.

All of which is to say that laptop design isn’t going to change, it has changed already. Mac users are living in the future of PC users.

I’m saving up for a laptop and have narrowed it down between the iPad and MacBook air.(both by apple) the air is a thin , small 11 inch laptop and the iPad is a touch screen around the same size. When Apple revised its new line of MacBook Air laptops in October 2010, it included solid-state drives (SSDs) made by Toshiba. Yet a recent finding has discovered a new drive has been circulating in the Air laptop that appears to be made by Samsung and has 20% to 25% faster read and write speeds.

While Apple did not return calls or verify the existence of a replacement drive, a drive model reading SM128C, which is believed to be a Samsung SSD, has been found in newer MacBook Air laptops by AnandTech. The original Air featured Toshiba’s slim Blade X-gale SSD, with the drive model of TS128C. Brand new Toshiba laptop batteries in australia battery shop.

According to AnandTech’s test of the drives, the SM128C drive has a read speed of 261.1 MB per second and a write speed of 209.6 MBps, which are 24% and 19% faster, respectively, than the Toshiba drive. The SM128C also supports native command queuing, AnandTech reported. These performance figures, as well as the “SM” in the model name, are in line with the performance of the Samsung 470 series SSDs. Samsung’s 470 series drives are available in 256 GB and 128 GB versions. Samsung details a 250 MBps read rate and 220 MBps write rate, along with 0.24 watts active power consumption and 0.14W when idle.

Toshiba’s Blade X-gale is no slouch either, with a maximum read speed of 220 MBps and a maximum write speed of 180 MBps. The 64 GB and 128 GB models weigh 0.35 of an ounce, while 256 GB version weighs 0.47 of an ounce. It is also 42% thinner than the typical mSATA SSD used in portable computers.

If the SSD found in the new MacBook Air is indeed Samsung, it questions the competition Samsung has created between its Samsung Series 9 laptop and the MacBook Air. Samsung claims its laptop, which contains the Samsung 470 128-GB SSD, is slightly lighter than the Macbook Air.

Apple introduced the MacBook Air in October 2010 as the smallest and thinnest computer on the market. The Air and Samsung Series 9 laptop use SSDs instead of hard disk drives (HDDs) to provide instant-on capabilities, faster performance, and longer apple laptop battery life. However, SSDs are also much more expensive and generally have less capacity than HDDs.Regardless of which drive you may find in the new MacBook Air, the speed difference isn’t significant and so far no confirmation exists regarding whether the SSD is indeed Samsung. For now, the only way to find out if the Air is using the SM128C SSD is to pull it out of the box and take it apart.
