Ok simple choice. Keep the pro trash the air. THe air is new and sexy but not very practical. It has a smaller hard drive runs MUCH slower than the pro, has no optical drive (I think you're really going to miss that one. Think of when you use that. Watching DVD's, listening to CD's, burning DVD's and CD's, backing up info, installing software. You need an optical drive. And I think having to go out and buy a sperate one to plug into the usb port kinda takes away from the whole ultra portable thing.) Also, the unit only has 1 usb port. I think you're going to be hurting with that one too. And there is no way to connect it to the internet with a wire. If there's no wireless you're screwed. Granted most places you'll want to use it will have wireless but it's still nice to have the wired option if you need it. So basically it's small and sexy and completely useless. Keep the pro. You'll be much happier. The pro is cheaper and you get much more.

Well if you really think you dont' need ports or optical drives.. But what if you actually want to use your ultra portable notebook on the go when you are not next to your 20 inch imac? I think you might need some ports and the optical drive hm? But if that still doesn't sway you, think of the speed and the performance. That is going to be tons better on the pro. The macbook air is the slowest mac notebook on the market.

If you have no need for a dvd/cd drive, firewire, ethernet port, and other ports and you arn't running video editing or graphic design programs then go for the Air. Its lighter, thinner, and easier to bring around.

You said you had a iMac so I'm assuming thats your main computer.

I have a refurb MacbookPro and love it. I run Video (Final cut Pro), photo (Photoshop, InDesign), and music (Ableton Live) and it never bogs down.

So again it comes down to:
1) whether you need the speed for your work
2) whether you'll ever use the dvd/cd drive or other ports

depends i would say that the macbook pro is better than the air but personal choice will be needed because you may decide now that you don't need anything the pro has but the processor is faster and has more hard drive space. the ssd drive is a waste of time and the cureent hard drives in the air are on 4500 rpm which shows that being the 1.8 inch drive they have been taken out of the 80gb ipods basically so read and write speed on the pro is better. as the drive is 5400 rpm you can also upgrade the macbook pro to a better hd at a later stage the imac can handle everything but i would stick with the macbook pro. that price is for a 15in model right

Hi, I was just wondering how useable the 11" is in terms of screen real estate after panels are opened up. I'm a proffesional photographer and I travel a lot, I love the idea of the portability of the 11 inch but I'm worried about it being too small to work on once the panels are up without constant zooming in/ out

...how have you found it?

Also...what's the spec of the machine that you recorded this with?

thanks

OKAY BIG MISTAKE, i use a macbook pro and i know a crapp load about computers. i program/design aswell. okay first of all DONT call it APPLE MACBOOK AIR, just say macbook air, thats how you can tell that you know nothing about computers.
2.)macbook air sucks, reasons;
-expensive SSD
-does not come with a cd drive (you have to buy an external one separetly)
-only has 1 usb port
-tiny screen
-tiny touch pad

3.)Dont buy a mac notebook just because your a university student and because its "white and pretty" or because it has "photo booth", your waisting your money.
4.)if your not studying it or graphic designing dont go for one.
5.)buy a normal computer, just don't buy a DELL or an ACER there crapp computers, go for an HP, there the best, most reliable and reasonable priced notebook.

First thing you should know about the mac book air: while yes, it's super thin, they shaved off a lot of nice things. There is NO disc drive. For software installations, you can use a wire less feature that allows you to put the disc into another computer, connect with that computer, and do it that way. You can't really use gaming software or movies though, unless you buy the add on disc drive that connects through USB port though. That brings me to the fact that there is only one USB port. While it doesn't seem like a big deal, it's very annoying, because it really limits your ability to multi-task. However, the air is designed to take full advantage of wireless technologies. You can download software directly on to your computer, rent movies online, and all that good stuff without actually using a CD.

Now, onto leopard (OSX operating system that comes with the computer)

Although I don't actually use leopard (my laptop is a dinosaur, and leopard is too big) I have friends who do, and from what I've seen of it, it's pretty awesome. Don't take my word for it though. Go to apple.com/macbookair to check out all the features and what not, it is very helpful.
