Is Microsoft on the verge of a downfall?
First of all the Windows Vista is not selling as well as XP did and corporations are still sticking with XP rather than adopting Vista. Secondly, Microsoft lost its bid for Yahoo. Thirdly, I heard this in the news recently Gamestop has stopped selling its Microsoft zunes. Here’s what the spokeperson said, “because it did not have the anticipated appeal and “did not fit with our product mix.” Fourthly, Macintosh computers sales have experience a growth rate 4 times that of windows pcs. So what do you think?

i hope so, i’m sick of having to spend my money on all of these technological gadets
The socialist dems will blame Bush for this too.
Only in your dreams!
If Microsoft was going to fold, Steve Jobs would not have opened up his architecture to other systems. Mac has increased their appeal by mirroring Microsoft. Microsoft is going through what most large corporations go through. They’ll fix it or die just as every other large corporation does. My bet is they’ll fix it.
no but in the real world competition rules and every one goes after the top dog
No windows will be around. besides what machines will i hack if they all disappear? Ever try to write viruses for Mac?
Macs are becoming more popular.but windows will always remain.
You may not be old enough to remember when XP came out. It too was disliked at first and Windows 2000 and NT4 help popularity for a few years. Eventually everyone “loved” XP.
So what if their bid for Yahoo was not taken up. Wait and see what happens next.
Who cares about a ZUNE?
Microsoft will be alright because of its market share… they have plenty of time to address their issues….
Downfall? No.
XP was not adopted by businesses immediately either and it’s no surprise Vista is not taking off with businesses yet. Give it time!
Microsoft did not “lose” its bid for Yahoo either. Yahoo simply refused, as is their prerogative. You “lose” a bid if someone outbids you, not when your bid is simply rejected and you then withdraw it.
I’m not too worried about Microsoft.
But why’d you post this in Elections?
This is a strange place for this question, is Microsoft and Apple running for president?
Working in the IT Industry for the past 7 years as a support engineer, qa engineer and programmer I have seen enthusiasm for Microsoft somewhat diminish, but I really have only seen enthusiasm for alternatives such as Linux or Mac increase a little bit and I dont think enough to create any major downfall of microsoft in the NEAR future. Who knows what might happen 10 years from now. Its hard to say. Vista has a bad reputation for hardware problems, thats not helping Microsoft in any way – but they recovered from XP’s reputation for security problems so who knows.
Vista does suck, but all of the server software that microsoft makes is great, and their software development tools are amazing and rapidly evolving in response to customer demands. 86% of new application servers are microsoft .net based. That’s an unheard of marketshare.
The home user market may shy away from microsoft if a viable alternative is offered, but they are treating their business customers (which constitute the marjorty of their sales) very well.
In addition to the server side of things, there are many more knockout applications developed exclusively on microsoft platforms. Look at the new netflix silverlight online movie rentals as an example.
you obviously haven’t heard.
microsoft will stop selling windows XP soon and will force people to buy the vista operating system.
furthermore, microsoft will continue to provide updates for windows xp but will eventually stop doing to too.
i’m really ticked off about this. how dare gates force us to use a system that’s not selling?
and yes, they’ve made some very bad business deals over the years but they are far from slipping downward.
As a certified AIX, HP/UX, Red Hat Linux and Solaris Administrator, I’d like to see it go away. In my organization, I’m known as a “Certified Windows Rebooter.” Their server software is as bad as their PC software. Vista is an absolute piece of crap and to make matters worse, many printer manufacturers do not make drivers for their older printers. Nothing like sending perfectly functional printers to a land fill to turn me off from Microsoft products.
