Voting Question: Considering the MacBook Air?

I need something ultra portable. This would be a computer strictly for the purpose of expeditious note-taking and any necessary internet browsing. I already have a 17″ MacBook Pro that is 2 and a half years old and it has been my primary computer the whole time. However, it is huge and heavy. I have back-breaking textbooks and an endless supply of things to carry already. I would like to have something else available to just grab and go, so to speak.

If you are an Air owner, how pleased are you with your purchase? While I don’t care much about the speed of the processor for this machine, I am curious if the 1.6 or 1.8 ghz processor feels slow or laggy. Is there any major drawback to purchasing this computer?

It is also worth mentioning that I don’t care about the absence of an optical drive and I would not be using an ethernet connection with this machine. Its value to me is strictly in its weight and ease of integration into my life.

Please don’t suggest any of those 7″ toy-sized PCs. They may be cute but they’re of no value to me.
I have been using Macs exclusively since the Apple IIe. I was 3 years old when I started out with the Apple brand. I think I know a few more things about Macs than you.

And I’m not sure why 2 gigs of memory is crap. My MacBook Pro 17″ runs beautifully on it and that has all of the extra ports and memory-eating capabilities that the Air does not. All I need is a lightweight computer for Microsoft Word and Safari.

From the way you described the computers, I don’t think you know as much as you want to believe. For a computer whose only function is holding Word documents, I think a 160 gig hard drive is pretty adequate.
